and then there were none...

Alicia T. adopted the smaller black beagle first and named him Lucky. she called a while later & asked if she could have the last beagle as well. she thinks she'll name him Taz. I am glad the two of them got to stay together, they are the best of friends & have always been inseparable.
I am glad we found good homes for 11 puppies...they are spread across northern Missouri & southern Iowa. they are living on farms and in town. facebook swap shops and KTTN Trading Post are lifesavers!
of course I am a bit sad that I will no longer be attacked by puppies when I go in the back yard. no more stuff getting drug into the yard. no little yips...

another adoption!

the school secretary adopted the last black pyrenees today for her son. They named her Shylo....so now we just have 2 black beagle males! I know she'll have a good home, plenty of love, and kids to romp and play with!

wow! and I thought getting your tongue stuck was bad...

Miss Fuzzy Lumpkins

has been put on hold for a new home in Newton, Iowa next week. facebook swap shops are the bomb! down 2 four puppies!!! (6 adopted in 4 days!)

today our old neighbor Jennifer adopted the white male pyranees and named him Duke. We know that Ashley named her white pryanees female Bella, and the lady from Grant City named the black female pyranees Thelma. and I never did verify that I am spelling pyranees correctly....so I just did...and I was WRONG! it is pryenees! oops!

adoptions....

Katie handled 4 puppy adoptions Friday...and 2 on Sunday. We know that the black female pyranees that went to Grant City has been named Thelma....and the white female pyranees that stays in Mercer is now Bella. I am so thankful for the people who have adopted these 6 cute little guys...although the back yard is starting to seem awful empty....(sigh)

aaaaaawwwwwww.....

4 of the puppies were adopted today!

the backyard seems a little bigger now....(sigh). Katie handled the adoptions, since I was at work, a mother and daughter took 2, then 2 others took 1 each. I hope they enjoy their new homes!

life and death....

did the weekly turtle tank cleaning yesterday, the one who wasn't growing & whose shell was getting soft was dead. He/She was buried in the rocks right in front of the little country church in front of porch. we definitely have a pet cemetery theme going here...how many pets have been buried in various spots in our yard since 1995? Snoball, litters of kittens, all of Boo-duh's first litter of puppies, Baby Nala, Bunny Foo-Foo, fish, Mr Frog, Sierra the Hamster, Templeton the Gerbil....
how many (now deceased) pets have we had?
1 rabbit
dogs: Shannon Lee, Baby Ryan, Little Miss Scooby Doo, Missy, Scrappy Doo, Nala, SnoBall, the basset hound who ran away the first night...
cats...Pochohantas, Nala, Socks, Mr Cat, Lucky, Mischief, Princess (I seriously can't remember all the cat names...)
fish: Norman and many others
1 frog
hamster: Sierra
gerbil: Templeton
chickens: Nugget and five others

there have been many tearful ceremonies in our yard, lots of mounds of rocks. does losing pets make kids stronger? or would they be better off not listening to their moms bitch endlessly about litter boxes, flea treatments, vet visits, walks, feeding, etc?

love, your puppy

I died today. You got tired of me and took me to the shelter. They were overcrowded and I drew an unlucky number. I am in a black plastic bag in a landfill now. Some other puppy will get the barely used leash you left. My collar was dirty and too small, but the lady took it off before she sent me to the Rainbow Bridge . Would I still be at home if I hadn’t chewed your shoe? I didn’t know what it was, but it was leather, and it was on the floor. I was just playing. You forgot to get puppy toys. Would I still be at home if I had been housebroken? Rubbing my nose in what I did only made me ashamed that I had to go at all. There are books and obedience teachers that would have taught you how to teach me to go to the door. Would I still be at home if I hadn’t brought fleas into the house? Without anti-flea medicine, I couldn’t get them off of me after you left me in the yard for days. Would I still be at home if I hadn’t barked? I was only saying, “I’m scared, I’m lonely, I’m here, I’m here! I want to be your best friend.” Would I still be at home if I had made you happy? Hitting me didn’t make me learn how. Would I still be at home if you had taken the time to care for me and to teach manners to me? You didn’t pay attention to me after the first week or so, but I spent all my time waiting for you to love me. I died today. Love, Your Puppy

the red-eared sliders

Katie found them on a turtle web site & fell in love...the mandatory Fed Ex overnite shipping costs more than the turtles....so, Tuna Bear, Ribbet, & Sally Lou Sue moved to Mercer in August. their tank needs cleaned about twice a week or Katie can't stand it. our house is starting to smell like an animal shelter...1 cat, 2 dogs, 3 turtles...Katie picked out 3 different scents of Febreze on our last Walmart trip...
the turtles have a Flintstones house, a log, & a huge basking platform, a Venus flytrap, a screen lid, AND a basking light. also got a moss kit, but haven't opened it yet...and the turtle dish is way huge.

Sophie

her name was originally Laffy & she belonged to the little Emily next door. they moved, Laffy stayed. she had been hanging out at our house for some time, we'd been feeding her, she took naps under the tree in the backyard. she was very skittish. Katie christened her Sophie and she can pet her. right now she is roaming free like she always has. I helped Katie pull some ticks off her the other day. we probably need to move her in the pen with Haleyi.

How Daisy Joined Our Family

it all started with Girl Scouts....we did pet badges in November & made catnip toys to donate to Green Hills Animal Shelter in Trenton. on our Christmas Vacation tour, one of the girls pointed out a sad eyed dog in a small crate. after we got home, I looked up her name....I fell in love with her. had to talk Kevin into it....afterall, we already have 2 outside dogs, about 10 outside wild cats, an inside cat, and a hyper inside needy weiner dog. One night I filled out an online app, they called when I was baking a pumpkin bundt cake on a Saturday morning, their monthly adoption day. Kevin, Katie, & I went, while Katie walked Daisy around & got to know her, I did the paperwork, paid our $91, stopped at Orshelin's for some doggie supplies, and home we came. got Daisy somewhat settled in before our Girl Scout meeting. Her name at the shelter was Daisy. Katie said we would name her Clementine. (I love that name!) at Girl Scouts, the girls were calling her Daisy Mae. so, she was christened Daisy Mae Clementine Dailey.
Sasha was a bit frantic at first. Daisy was just happy to run laps around the house. We had her a little over a week when she went to get fixed & her rabies shot. she can slip out of the collar when she goes out to potty, so has to wear a harness. she'll frolic outside forever with her long red hair, while poor nearly naked shorthaired Sasha wants to potty & get back inside.
Daisy is an older dog, she was rescued by GHAS from a puppy mill in south Missouri. The vet had to pull some teeth that were bad. one ear is shriveled up, the other has been ripped almost in two & healed that way. she is missing front teeth from chewing on her cage. and her nose is all scarred up from the cage. she seems fairly happy with us. Katie is her favorite Dailey. She sleeps with her. she can't jump up and down off furniture, someone has to lift her. she doesn't like to chew on toys, but does chew on guitar straps & duffle bag straps. she growls at KJ a lot. Kevin seems to like her, he'll tell me amusing stories of the doggie antics during the day while I'm at work. she'll run to the door when it's time to potty, her & Sasha have a time getting their leashes tangled up.
she was purchased by GHAS from Southwest Auctin Service in Wheaton, MO. her papers say she is a Red Dapple Dachshund born 10/6/08. she has a microchip #4A3 94A 5A2C.
her dam was Williams KOJO, sire Williams Piper, breeder Nancy Williams of Purdy, MO. she has papers and could be registered.
the shelter got her December 16, 2010.
the vet estimated her birthdate as 07/19/2005 on his rabies paperwork.

Our Pets

Miss Cuddles got a cat bed for Xmas, which she is really utilizing now that we have saved a dog from the Green Hills Animal Shelter....Daisy Mae Clementine Dailey. Sasha seems to have calmed down a bit with a companion....
